The Northwood High School swim team won their second league meet at the Northwood Aquatic Center on April 1, 2015 by a significant margin, taking 528 points of the 984-point total from Irvine High School.

That final score, though, doesn't tell the full story of a very strong Northwood High School swimming scene.  The Timberwolves combined got (25) twenty-five individual first place victories, but added to that a sweep of the Varsity Boys and JV Girls/Boys relays for this runaway victory.  This was a deep team that scored 77% of points in the JV Varsity Boys category alone.

 200 FREE

The Northwood Open Girls got the meet started with a 2-3 finish with JJ Hopper touching second in 2:39.56, and Cindy Le claiming third in 2:46.40.  Open Boys Brian Fu didn't disappoint; he finished in front by 8.56 seconds with a 2:12.37.  Second place went to Rahi Dakwala (2:20.93).  The 200 free belong to JV Varsity freshman Darrel Choi from start to finish.  Choi won by a full body length in 1:54.95, ahead of sophomores Kyle Pendleton (1:56.89), and Michael Lee (2:01.96).  Varsity Girls Zoe Baick took third in the event (2:06.03).  The varsity Boys was a tight race throughout, but senior Daryl Wang had the strongest final 100 and took the title in 1:47.74.  Northwood sophomore Mack Nesbit (1:48.64) finished second, while Irvine's Micah Kamai (1:54.16) was third.

100 IM

Northwood Open Girls Amina Tawfik pulled in a third place showing in the 100 IM touching in at 1:35.36.  The Open Boys posted the top three rankings in the 100 IM with Yiming Sun winning in 1:05.81.  Following second was David Chang with a time of 1:08.01.  Sriteja Sadam placed third in 1:11.09.

200 IM

JV Girls Shannon Lee dominated the 200 IM surging to the top time of the evening with a 2:36.17.  Irvine's Aimee Jurado held onto second with a 2:38.86, while Kiana Allen clocked third in 2:41.35.  On the JV Boys side Northwood's Daniel Bae gunned for first touch with a time of 2:13.62, while Jonathan Pham snared the second spot in 2:23.28 away from a very close race against teammate Nick O'Neill who set a time of 2:26.72 for third place.  Varsity Girls Julia Gonik picked up a third place win, posting a 2:12.08.  Varsity Boys Billy Monjay breaststroke standout marked the top time in the 200 IM with a 1:55.37 for the victory over teammate Judson Balding who checked in with a second time 1:58.79, while Irvine's Tedd Pham stretched to touch in 2:02.29 for third.

50 Free

In the Northwood Open Girls, JJ Hopper put in a time of 32.16 for third.  Open Boys Roddur Dasgupta grabbed second place honors in 30.44.  Teammate Christopher An locked down third with a 32.17.  JV Girls junior Sian Davis clinched the 50 free title (28.42) in a battle with Irvine's Kristen clocking second in 28.81.  JV Boys Ryan Lee performed a touch out triumph ahead of teammate George Peabody (24.03), while Irvine's Jared Johannessen placed third with 24.58.  Varsity senior Peter Zhu took the win in the 50 free event cruising first touch with a 22.44.  He beat out teammate junior Cameron Hsieh, who took second in 22.49 and Irvine's Preston Fox claiming third in 24.18.

50 Fly

Northwood Open Boys Arthur Liu secured the win in the 50 fly victory clocking in at 29.21, and moving a body length away from Irvine's Kevin Ko 31.01.  Yong Woo Kim raced for third in 31.13.

100 Fly

Lady Timberwolves freshman Beatrice Maika Marin cleared 1:08.91 in the JV Girls 100 fly placing second, while teammate sophomore Ashley Tung went 1:14.13 completing the 2-3 finish for Northwood.  JV Boys Darrel Choi raced out to a 58.64 title win in the 10 fly distancing himself further on his back half against teammate Esteban Torres (1:02.82) holding on to second against Irvine's Sihwan Kim 1:04.08.  On the Varsity Girls side Alyssa Gong swept the 100 fly charting a time of 1:02.51 for the win, while Irvine's Kristine Nguyen placed second (1:03.34).  The Timberwolves dominated the top three spots in the Varsity 100 fly with freshman Gabe Munoz touching first in 53.48, while senior Tyler Duong placed second in 56.83.  Senior Daryl Wang picked up third in 56.97.

100 Free

Northwood Open Girls Seren Smith pocketed third in 1:16.0.  On the boy's side Yiming Sun doubled with a sweep in the 50 free as Sun charted a time of 1:05.81 for the win, while teammate Jonathan Mah and Irvine's Turner Song placed second and third with times of 59.78 and 1:01.31.  Northwood JV Boys freshman Daniel Bae went out hard in the 100 free, holding onto a lead down the stretch for a winning finish in 52.84.  Freshman Collen Press captured second place in 53.29, and Irvine's Jared Johannessen rounded third in 54.32.  Tearing through the water, Varsity Boys freshman Hunter Hitchens swept the 100 free stopping the clock in 48.45 with his first triumph for the meet.  Junior Cameron Hsieh grabbed second with a time of 48.71, while Irvine's Oscar Nomura placed third in 51.26.

500 Free

JV Varsity Ashley Lee pulled in some points for the Lady Timberwolves touching in a 6:07.37 for third.  The race in the JV Boys 500 free came down to three swimmers, with Northwood's Kyle Pendleton leading the way to hit the wall first in a 5:24.69.  Teammate Joseph Shaw stopped the clock for second in 5:25.91, while Irvine's Austin Barbrick claimed third in 5:26.18.  Varsity Girls Zoe Baick earned another third place in the 500 free with a time of 5:34.91.  Varsity freshman Shawn Lou posted the quickest time in the 500 free at 4:49.46.  sophomore Mack Nesbit pulled in another second place win (4:58.52), and completing the triple win for the Timberwolves was junior Shayan Shaikh rounding third in 5:07.25.

50 Back

Northwood Open Girls Daniela Garcia Llaguno earned her first win in the 50 back, winning comfortably in 40.16, well ahead of Irvine's Emily Miller (41.49).  The Open Boys came alive in the 50 back producing a triple 1-2-3 win with David Chang (31.46), Max Tsao (33.22), and Gregor Shepard (34.90).

100 Back

JV Girls Shannon Lee just out touched Irvine's Yu Uchiyama, 1:07.46 to 1:08.39, for the victory.  JV Boys not to be denied produced a triple 1-2-3 of their own with Justin Pyne (1:04.66), Kevin Wu (1:05.16) and Adam Do (1:08.01).  Lady Timberwolves Nancy Zhu pulled in a third place finish 1:06.60 in the 100 back.  The Northwood Varsity Boys added to the triple win excitement producing their version with Billy Monjay (54.94), Judson Balding (56.41), and Nick Thorson (57.02).

50 Breast

Northwood Open Girls senior Emy Kory grabbed second in 40.01.  The Open Boys followed up in first overall with freshman Leon Shi (33.17).

100 Breast

Beatrice Maika Marin cleared 1:18.06 in the JV Girls 100 breast placing first, while Irvne's Aimee Jurado was right behind for second in 1:20.49.  JV Boys went 1-2 in 1:05.04 and 1:06.48 with Andy Tran and Kevin Chen.  Irvine's Patrick Liu touched third (1:10.15).  Varsity Girls Julia Gonik produced a strong second place showing in the 100 breast (1:09.01), while teammate Jenna Morely rounded out the top three in the event with a 1:14.78.  Varsity freshman Gabe Munoz raced out to a 29.05 split at the first turn of the 100 breast, then slicing his back half to finish in 1:00.93 for the final individual victory for Northwood.
