2019 Champions of Character Award Trophy & Banner
On Monday, September 23, 2019 the California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section (CIF-SS) held their 16th Annual Dr. Jim Staunton Champions for Character Awards Dinner in the Grand Conference Center (Long Beach). The California Interscholastic Federation is the governing body of athletics in the state of California, and Northwood High School was one of two schools in the entire CIF Southern Section to receive the Champions for Character award.
The evening presentation honors student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and schools who represent excellent sportsmanship and outstanding character. The Champions for Character award personifies the commitment that Northwood High School and NHS Athletics has towards the CIF Six Pillars of Character, trustworthiness, responsibility, respect, fairness, caring and citizenship.
Northwood High School Principal Leslie Roach and Athletic Director Brandon Emery were present at the ceremony to receive the award, which represents the hard work of our coaches, athletics administration support staff, and most importantly our student-athletes.
“It's a great way to encourage sportsmanship," said Head Coach Alex Nieto. "Our swim team staff always communicates to work hard, be fair, with respect, sportsmanship and compassion, and after every swim meet shake hands as friendly competitors."
A big congratulations to Northwood High School and NHS Athletics. The Northwood High School swim team is excited to celebrate with all NHS sports teams on this outstanding achievement.
