The Cal State University-East Bay women's swimming and diving team has received a verbal commitment from Addison Cadena. She will suit up for the Pioneers in the Fall of 2023.
Cadena is one of Northwood High School's top female swimmers who is currently in the middle of her senior year. She's primarily a mid-distance freestyle specialist, however provides versatility in the 200 and 400 IM, 200 fly and 200 breast. She neared her lifetime best 500 freestyle (5:14.61), with 5:18.58 at the recent 2023 Spring H.S. Meet of Champions at Mt. SAC. She also contributed to Northwood's 7th-place 200 medley relay 50 fly split (27.08).
Cadena does her club swimming with Irvine Novaquatics. She had an excellent short course season, achieving a personal best in the 50 fly 28.02 at the Speedo Sectionals - Carlsbad, along with another recent season best 100 free (58.60) at the SI CSA President's Day Senior Meet - Coronado.
Cadena will be a huge addition to the East Bay program when she arrives this fall. Her current lifetime bests will allow her the potential to compete in the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference.
The CSU-East Bay Pioneers women's team was a powerhouse at the 2022 Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships placing second and losing to Pepperdine by just 100 points. The CSUEB women finished 21st in the team scoring among 39 teams at the 2023 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships held in Indiana University's Natatorium last March.
“Addison brings a lot of versatility to the Cal State East Bay program. She can swim pretty much anything, and I have seen vast improvements in all of her strokes over the past years to know that she will really flourish within our program," CSUEB Head Coach Shane Pelton said.
Cadena will be enrolled at CSUEB pursuing a major in psychology.
